Sir Mick Jagger, lead vocalist if the Rolling Stones, has been a counterculture icon since the early 60’s. The wild rock star has often clashed with the authorities over alleged drug use, and made headlines for his numerous high-profile relationships and affairs. Anyone who’s ever seen a Mick Jagger Rolling Stones performance will be familiar with his on-stage charisma.
In 1968, Mick Jagger joined the ranks of bohemian celebrities to take up residence in “Swinging Chelsea”. Mick Jagger and his then-girlfriend Marianne Faithful attracted the attention of many an estate agent London when they moved into the Chelsea property 48 Cheyne Walk. The Chelsea Drugs Squad monitored the Mick Jagger Chelsea residence regularly and even raided the house in 1969. It seems Chelsea was something of a haven for artists and musicians; Keith Richards, friend and band-mate of Mick Jagger, moved into 3 Cheyne Walk in the same month. David Bowie and Brian Jones are among other famous faces to have graced the Chealsea area in its heyday.
Mick Jagger sold No. 48 in 1978 – the same year that Keith Richards sold No. 3 – and has since invested in properties in the West Indies. It seems however that Chelsea still holds a special place in his heart. In 2006 Mick Jagger purchased a £ 10 million Chelsea mansion as a UK base for himself and his girlfriend L’Wren Scott. It seems that Chelsea is still a swinging place to stay!
