Standup Comedian Lee Mack is Back!

Lee Mack left the standup comedy industry a few years ago but has returned to tour the UK in 2009 and 2010 and so far his “Going Out” show has been such a success that organisers have added further Lee Mack appearances to the bill. Jimi Hendrix 40th Anniversary Celebration in London

You might not hear this kind of news from letting agents Marylebone or your friendly grocer down the road but if you meet any music enthusiast in the area, it is likely that you will be told about the Jimi Hendrix music Memorial Tour that is about to hit London shores.

This tribute concert featuring some of Jimi Hendrix style hits including Purple Haze and All Along the Watchtower will be held at legendary Ronnie Scott’s club in London. This London gig will feature The Nigel Kennedy Band as well as the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars just to name a few. Jimi Hendrix played his last ever gig on the 18th of September, 1970 at this exact Ronnie Scott’s Club – a musical experience that will forever be remembered by those who attend.

The Jimi Hendrix tribute gig will run for two nights at the Ronnie Scott’s club and you will be entertained by the sounds of Nigel Kennedy as he collaborates with other musicians to bring the songs of Jimi Hendrix back to you. Thames Festival is a celebration of London Living

Also known as the Mayor Thames Festival, the River Thames Festival is the largest outdoor festival in London that is free for all who are interested in attending. The festival highlights arts and entertainment as well as the cultural life of the city. For two days, the River Thames is transformed into a festival spectacular as areas around the river and the streets come alive with street performers, installations, food stalls, musicians performing and more.

The Thames Festival is not confined to a few days of celebration and awareness, but rather is part of an ongoing organisation called the Thames Festival Trust – a charitable initiative that looks at increasing interest and appreciation of the iconic Thames River.

As winter sets in, Londoners are retreating from the parks and football pitches in pursuit of much-needed warmth. Muse
The supergroup from Devon will be on stage at Wembley Stadium on 10th and 11th September. This is one of those London music gigs not to be missed, as Muse never fail to deliver an electrifying performance. You couldn’t pick a better London gig if you’re in the mood to dance the night away as Matthew Bellamy’s vocal stylings soar over the crowds of die-hard fans.

Interpol
These New Yorkers will be bringing their melancholy rock sound to one of London’s best-known clubs, Heaven. Million Dollar Quartet may feature in London Theatres by 2011!

If you are a fan of the kings of rock and roll from the 50s you should be sure not to miss the musical Million Dollar Quartet. This stage musical has travelled all over the world and brings you the complete story of the musical collaboration of these four musical geniuses and recently, rumours have been flying around that this musical will hit London stages sooner than later. So if you are a theatre lover as well as a lover of good music, we suggest that you continue to check West End theatre bookings as well as West End event tickets sales for Million Dollar Quartet.

According to various London theatre websites, producers of Million Dollar Quartet are looking into bringing this musical to London from its Broadway roots but according to sources, the musical is yet to release an exact tour date.

Million Dollar Quartet is based on a true story of a historical event that took place between Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. These four musicians joined together one day at a recording studio in Memphis in 1956 and created an impromptu band jam session which even though it was a private affair, became one of the worlds most talked about and famous collaborations of our time. Million Dollar Quartet features songs that were originally performed by the great musicians themselves such as Blue Suede Shoes, Hound Dog and Great balls of Fire – just to name a few.

Are cookery shows too extreme?

It’s unfortunate that cookery on TV has become such a competitive sport. Who can do the craziest show? I watched a bit of Jimmy’s Food Factory last night and couldn’t say I felt I had enhanced myself from the experience. He’s like a poor man’s Heston Blumenthal, and what they both have in common are TV series about food, with nothing edible at the end to inspire. Where oh where have the good old days of telly cookery gone? Now we have to rely on the morning shows to show us what to cook.

Saturday Kitchen, ITV’s This Morning or GMTV all have good food offerings and you can actually learn something from the better chef presenters such as Dean Edwards who is always so inventive, full of great tips and not bad to watch either! Even the guest chefs on Saturday Kitchen occasionally inspire me to get going in the kitchen and cook what I just watched (after a spot of shopping of course).

James Martin looks bored with the whole thing though – he’s obviously doing a job now, and like day old bread, he’s gone a bit stale. What we need are more initiatives like This Morning’s hunt for a new chef.

I want new ideas, new ingredients, new faces from TV viewing. Why isn’t Yotam Ottolenghi on TV? He could do an entire series on eggplants alone, and I would be riveted. But maybe that’s just food porn for kitchen geeks like me…

West End Welcomes back Denise Van Outen

It only took six months for superstar Denise Van Outen to recover after her pregnancy until the glitz and glamour of West End beckoned her back to the bright lights. Pictures of Denise Van Outen paints the portrait of a happy mum who is eager to jump back into the spotlight. West End Theatre tickets are already on sale for her portrayal of a busty blonde in the onstage adaption of ‘Legally Blonde – The musical’. Denise van Outen’s baby, Betsy was born in May and since then once pregnant Denise van Outen has spoken often of her desire to return to the stage.

Her role in the musical adaptation of Legally Blonde will be that of Paulette, a ditsy American teen who is determined to make it big in the courts of her home state. The formerly pregnant Denise Van Outen was attacked by the paparazzi and photos of her public breastfeeding were splashed across the local papers – this forced her to curb public breastfeeding once and for all, much to the dismay of her male fans who might have enjoyed these images of Denise van Outen. West End Festival Tickets for the show are already on sale, and Denise Van Outen will join the cast of this hit musical on the 25th of October. Book now to avoid any disappointments.

Last Night of the BBC Proms

The BBC Proms, London’s famous eight-week orchestral music festival, is one of the world’s most popular – and most sophisticated – music events. Founded in 1895, the BBC Proms (or The Henry Wood Promenade Concerts presented by the BBC) are steeped in tradition. While you may not require a heavy pair of womens safety shoes or boots from Terra footwear to fight your way through jostling crowds, you may find your BBC Proms experience enhanced by sturdy footwear as you join fellow audience members in the “Prommers’ Stamp” – stamping of the feet to applaud an exceptional musical performance!

This Saturday, 11 September 2010, will mark the annual “Last Night of the Proms” as the BBC Proms draws to a close for the year. The programme for the last evening of the BBC Proms for 2010 looks set to wow seasoned Prommers and newcomers alike. Soprano Renée Fleming and conductor Jiří Bělohlávek will be giving stellar performances, and Prommers can expect traditional BBC Proms favourites like Rule Britannia! and of course the Pomp and Circumstance March.

Tickets are, as always, in high demand for the Last Night of the BBC Proms. Most tickets were allocated by ballot to Prommers who have bought tickets to 5 or more BBC Proms concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. Another 200 tickets were available by open ballot, which has now closed. While it seems unlikely that any further tickets to the wildly popular BBC Proms would still be available, standing tickets are often purchasable for £5.00 on the Last Night for anyone willing to join the queues at the Royal Albert Hall.

It is said that the spirit of original Proms conductor Henry Joseph Wood presides over the present-day BBC Proms, and many Prommers would attribute this to the uplifting experience that is the famous Final Night.

Family Fun at Epping Forest Festival

London city-dwellers may find dealing with active children an exhausting task that leaves them feeling the need to collapse into the nearest undersized armchair for kids. This Sunday, the Epping Forest Festival will allow parents get up off the Milan black armchair to stretch their legs, while kids work off some of that excess energy!

The Epping Forest Festival will take place on picturesque Chingford Plain from 11:00 to 16:00 on Sunday 5th September. Families can expect all sorts of fun activities at the Epping Forest Festival, including craft workshops, jousting displays and a pipe band performance. There will also be a dog agility display, and families are encouraged to bring their four-footed friend along for the Epping Forest Festival “dog scurry”.

The annual forest festival is organised by the City of London Corporation’s Open Spaces Department. It offers families a chance to experience London’s biggest public open space, which is an important wildlife habitat. Visitors can learn about the conservation of areas like this 6,000 acre forest from staff and volunteers at the event. The Epping Forest Festival will also include forestry exhibits and a spectacular “dancing digger” display from mechanical diggers.

The forest festival is only 5 minutes walk from Chingford Station, and entrance is free! Families arriving by car will be charged a £3 parking fee however. The Epping Forest Festival isn’t just an entertaining day out, it’s a chance to learn about the importance of preserving natural spaces in urban surroundings.
