Internationally famous celebs have made their homes in Chelsea for decades and apartments and penthouses in the exclusive tree-lined borough are still highly sought after by the rich and famous.

King’s Road in Chelsea was home to some of the world’s top rock and pop stars in the sixties and seventies, including the celebrated Beatles and Rolling Stones.  For centuries, the nearby Belgravia square was the most fashionable place to live, with the Duke of Bedford once occupying  house number 6.  While London has expanded and changed around the boroughs of Chelsea and Kensington, the area still remains relatively unchanged and one of the most exclusive places to live in the world. Chelsea nightclubs are where you go if you want to spot celebrities and even nobility, as even Prince William and Harry have started taking an interest in the area recently. Walking though Chelsea, you’ll be unaware that it is teeming with celebrities living out their lavish lives behind sometimes modest-looking closed doors.

Hugh Grant’s ex-girlfriends

Hugh Grant was photographed swinging a tub of baked beans at a paparazzi journalist in front of his Chelsea home. Long time ex, Liz Hurley, was also recently spotted leaving her own pad in the area. Another of Grant’s celebrity ex’s, heiress and socialite, Jemima Khan, has put up one of her luxurious homes for sale; Khan’s Chelsea pad is in the most exclusive square in London near King’s road. Khan originally bought the house from financier, James Arbib for £18 million but moved in with Grant soon after the purchase and subsequently tried to sell it without success for £35 million.

Pop Queens

Madonna has several properties in London’s Belgravia square. She bought the house next door to her own family home and in 2006 she spent another £9 million on a three bedroom house nearby.  Her neighbour in Belgravia said that the pop-icon was looking for more space. In 2008, Madonna and Guy Ritchie got divorced and Richie reportedly bought a pad 200 metres from the Madonna Mansions, in order to be close to their kids.  Another pop icon, Kylie Minogue has been spotted several times smilingly leaving her home in Chelsea, which is near the gardens.

21st century stars still favour the Chelsea area
Chelsea harbor has recently become a popular spot for the rich and famous. Robbie Williams bought a £2.5million harbor penthouse back in 2003 when he claimed that his Notting Hill pad wasn’t spacious enough. Other residents of the up market harbor area include actor, Sir Michael Caine, Sally Burton and famous playwright, Tom Stoppard.  Lindsay Lohan has hinted that she is thinking of moving close to Chelsea. The young star said that she often stays with at friend’s home in Chelsea and is looking for a place nearby.
