Empowering Women: Take to the seas with a women’s sailing course

Women are making a splash in the yachting-world lately, with all-women crews winning numerous awards and being given recognition. Ladies are doing it for themselves – and it is now possible for the corporate boss or the housewife to let her hair down and partake in a sailing course fit for a queen. Whether you want to take a break from your kids and husband and partake in a weekend sailing course, or you wish to set sail for the entire week, joining a sailing school will boost your confidence, help you forget about your day-to-day stress and let you interact with other women who all have a love and common interest for the sport.

There are now ever increasing incidents of women taking charge in the sport of sailing and coming out on top. What some may see as a sport dominated by the men, is now an activity that has taken a feminine turn. Earlier this week, Sam Davies won the 2009 Ladies Day Trophy award. Sam is seen as an inspiration to many other female sailors as well as women wanting to enter the sport of sailing for competitive or leisure reasons. There are now women’s only sailing competitions that enable women to race against their counterparts for some friendly competition.

Sailing does not discriminate, so factors like age or physicality do not matter. It is the empowerment that women receive in taking part in sailing courses that is inspiring others to open up, broaden their horizons and sign up for a course in sailing.

There are many sailing schools that offer courses just for women. These yacht sailing courses are a fantastic chance to meet other like-minded women and try something entirely different. Many women feel that sailing with other ladies is a great way to assist them in the art of sailing. It is also a great way to show the men that women do not need to rely on them to “turn the bow” and “raise the jib.” Sailing schools offer extensive training that will challenge any individual, but at the same time leave that person with a full sense of achievement and pride once a course is completed. No matter what your motivation or experience is, a sail course might be exactly what you need.

So why don’t you decide that today is the day that you do something for yourself and enroll in a sailing course?
