Solar lights have transformed from the expensive ugly ducklings they were only a few years ago, into beautiful swans of the home lighting world, with various colours, designs and sizes up for grabs. The use of solar lights has grown considerably in recent years, especially for landscape and garden lighting. Some cities use solar street and traffic lights, and various businesses use solar and LED lighting solutions to brighten up their stores and businesses. Whether we love it or hate it, Christmas time is slowly approaching. One of the most popular family traditions before Christmas day is to decorate the tree in shiny tinsel and twinkling fairy lights. In today’s society, it has become a trend to follow the ongoing campaign to save the planet. Many of us have already “gone green” or are constantly recycling. There is, however, another way in which we can do our part and that is by saving electricity. LED lights are a perfect example of this and prove as a hassle-free way in which to save a few extra rands on your monthly electricity bill. These lights have strong competition, with the normal household light bulb always coming in first place. When looking at the benefits of these energy saving light bulbs, one can see clearly that replacing your normal light bulbs (also known as incandescent bulbs) with LED lights would seem practical. solargardenlights1Gardens are probably the most underappreciated parts of our houses as we retreat indoors and turn on the lights to watch DVDs or potter around the house and shun the good weather. But gardens provide us with something the interior of the house never will: the smell of cut grass after the rain, the African earth beneath our feet and the stars above our heads.

Venturing outside needn’t be strictly kept to daylight hours. With adequate garden lighting you can transform your dark, uninviting back yard into an oasis of light and, thanks to advances in solar energy and energy efficient lighting, you don’t have to pay a fortune in electricity to do so.
